This project consists of full-depth reconstruction and widening of the Pennsylvania Turnpike from two lanes in each direction to three lanes in each direction between mileposts 102 and 109 in Somerset County, PA.
The mainline Turnpike will be realigned at two locations to straighten out the curves and improve sight distance for traveler safety. Other activities include the construction of two box culverts, one box culvert extension, four arch culvert extensions, three retaining walls, one soil nail wall, three sign structures and one DMS sign.
RIG Consulting, Inc. as a subconsultant, is providing Safety, Solar Power Camera set-up and maintenance, and Construction Inspection services with a Safety Officer, Technology Professional, and two Transportation Construction Inspectors. Safety services include monthly site visits, observation and documentation of unsafe acts or conditions, and monthly safety meetings with the contractor. Technology services included the research and purchasing of equipment, location identified and equipment set-up, and on-going maintenance of solar panels, batteries, camera equipment, and user software. Inspection activities include jack and bore pipe, cast-in-place type DW end walls, cast-in-place type 7 inlets, and 42” snap pipe liners for existing culverts.
